With CEREC® technology, we can design and fabricate crowns, bridges, and other restorations in a single day. CEREC® stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics; it’s an innovative process that uses CAD/CAM technology to create same-day restorations that blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Our patients are thrilled with the results of their CEREC same-day crowns and we’re sure you will be too!

The CEREC® Process

Prior to CEREC® technology, patients would need to make at least two visits to their dentist’s office to get a crown—one visit to have their tooth prepared and one visit for the crown to be placed. Between these two appointments was a few weeks’ wait while the permanent crown was being fabricated in a dental laboratory. During this time, a temporary crown is used, leaving the prepared tooth vulnerable to decay and damage.

CEREC® allows us to prepare your tooth and place your permanent crown all in a single appointment. The same-day crown process begins by taking digital impressions with an intraoral scanner so we can match the shape of your natural tooth when designing your restoration. Digital impressions are more accurate and comfortable than traditional impressions taken with impression material. Then, your tooth is prepared for your crown by removing areas of decay and damage. More digital impressions are taken so we can fit your crown to the prepared tooth.

We use advanced 3D software to plan how your crown will interact with your other teeth and design your restoration. An in-house milling machine fabricates a crown out of a solid piece of tooth-colored composite material. The finished crown is bonded to your prepared tooth and then cured with a specialized light.

A same-day crown or bridge offers exceptional strength and a natural appearance. With CEREC®, you’ll get a crown that is affordable, durable, long-lasting, and aesthetic—and you’ll get all of this without the hassle of a traditional restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions About CEREC® Crowns

Are CEREC crowns more expensive?

No, CEREC crowns are comparable in price to traditional tooth-colored crowns.

Are CEREC crowns better than traditional crowns?

CEREC crowns are better than traditional crowns because they don’t leave your prepared tooth susceptible to decay or damage while your permanent restoration is being fabricated by a dental laboratory. They’re also much more convenient for our patients, while still having all of the benefits of a traditional crown.

Are CEREC crowns good for molars?

Yes, the material used to make CEREC crowns is durable and strong, making it suitable for molars.

Are CEREC crowns strong?

Yes, CEREC crowns are strong. While a gold alloy crown is stronger, this isn’t an option that most patients are willing to consider because they prefer crowns that look like their natural teeth.

How long do CEREC crowns last?

CEREC crowns can last a decade or longer with good oral hygiene habits and regular dental exams and cleanings.
